Thursday Thirteen #20: Calgary

13 things I LOVE about Calgary

  • I love the school system here. Definitely a whole lot better than in Brampton and Toronto.
  • I love our new car.
  • I love our new home.
  • Friendly people.
  • Abundance of job opportunities.
  • Job offers in a matter of days.
  • Higher salary base compared to Toronto.
  • We love the mountains.
  • Great outdoor activities all year round -- skiing, snowboarding, climbing, hiking, backpacking, fishing, mountaineering and golf....
  • Low crime rate.
  • Chinook.
  • Looking forward to the Stampede in July.
  • And summer time!

13 things I HATE about Calgary

  • Very expensive housing.
  • Groceries are more expensive than in Toronto.
  • Have to pay for recycling fees when you buy bottles of milk, coke and tetra pack juices.
  • Traffic during rush hour.
  • No Dandelions to welcome spring time.
  • Relatively very few trees to give shades during summer time.
  • It's all brown here [not green].
  • No fall colors too since majority of the trees here are Evergreen and Pine trees.
  • Longer winter days [we still got snow last week].
  • Our friends are all in Toronto/Mississauga.
  • Experiencing the 4 seasons in a matter of hours! [No wonder I got sick a lot since we moved].
  • Dry air.
  • And more dry air.

Hmm, being in Edmonton I'm slowly being conditioned to think that Calgary is the center of all evil. However, having lived in Ontario, I know that title is already claimed by Toronto *heehee*

Calgary is beautiful and you will appreciate the chinooks when they come in winter. The foothills are lovely and remember, it's a dry cold ;)

Enjoy your trip to Manila. I can't wait to head back there myself.

Love the double treat - what you like and what you don't. Never been to Calgary - I'm a West Coast Gal born and raised, currently living on Vancouver Island.

Have a great time in Manila.

hey there!!! nice blog!! i'd like to link your blog to mine so it'll just be a click away whenever i want to come back again and read some more. is that cool with you?

great T13 list this week. funny comparison you got there!!! so where would you rather be??? Calgary or Brampton??? Brampton sucks, you're probably better off there in Calgary, what do you think? :)

Hi Jo. Thanks for sharing the highs and lows of staying at Calgary. It seems that the good points outweigh the not-so-good ones and I'm sure your stay there is worth it.

Thanks for sharing and hope that you will continue to live a good life in Calgary.

I guess every place really has its ups and downs noh?

I'm glad you like it there. :)

Agree with Vernaloo, there are always ups and downs in everything.

Anyway, I'm glad that you can find something nice about the place.

My prayer for you.

one bad thing about CALGARY

- you and the family are there, while we're all here :)

there's always a good and bad side to anything. but with Calgary, it looks good for you and the kids...that's where the Lord wanted you for now...pero pababalikin daw kayo sa Toronto kapag high school and college na yung kids...hula ko lang...

Despite the down side, Calgary still sounds like a nice place which one should not miss if travelling to Canada from a city place like HK. Thanks for sharing, indeed.

Thanks for sharing with us the ups and downs of living in Calgary. I have considered this place as a future option for me and Basti. hopefully, in God's own time, I will be able to reach that goal.

Happy Thursday!

Hi She,
Thanks! We are all excited to go home for a visit!

Hi Christine,
I would love to visit Vancouver Island too, I heard its a beautiful place especially in the summer.

Hi Ingrid,
You're most welcome to link. I think Calgary is starting to grow on me....

Hi Rach,
Have to let people know that its not all good here... baka masisi pa ako. ",)

Hi Verns and Naeva,
Yup, can't have it all!

Hi Junnie,
Who knows where we will be 5 years from now? Might be back in Toronto or other province naman... hehehe

Hi Duke and Fenny,
It is a good move for us!

Hi Liz,
See you in Manila! And I'll share more info about Calgary!

You could always come back to Toronto Jo...hehehe! It doesn't have to where you where before perhaps another place in Ontario. I love where I am!

Agring said...

I mean were you where!

Raquel said...

May mga pros and cons but I still consider Calgary is a nice place (as your updates). Sana magtagal kayo jan.

Very informative itong post mo Jo. Nagkakaroon ako ng idea although matagal pa naman.

jo, in life daw kasi, we cant have everything! concentrate na lang sa most impt things like good job offers, it means good money!
uy, pautang ha! lol

JO said...

Hi Agring,
Well, even with the things I don't like about Calgary, we plan to stick it out for a few years. Kakapagod mag relocate no!

Hi Raquel,
We did make a good decision for our move. No regrets on that part.

Hi Ann,
Email me if you need more information. Sana matuloy kayo dito! Gusto kong matikman ang mga luto mo! hahaha

Hi Francesca,
Yes, we can't have it all! I'm sure mas malaki ang kita mo kaysa sa akin! In demand ka diyan eh!

seems to me that the nice things outweigh the not-sonice things. :)

at least there's a balance. it will not be nice if there's more reason to hate than love the place where you live.

I guess living in a certain place has its pros and cons.

I didn't realize that you don't get the fall colours there.

We also pay recycling fees for drinks hear. 2 cents per each bottle or juicebox.

JO said...

Hi Cess, Evi and Irene,

Yup. It all has its pros and cons. I could probably come up with a list of things I like and hate in Toronto.

alynn said...
