Wordless Wednesday #6 and Litratong Pinoy: Kadiliman
We were on our way to a friend's house for dinner last night. And I was contemplating whether to bring my DSLR or not. Well, it's a good thing I brought it with me or I wouldn't have the chance to take these pictures. I have never seen the clouds like this! I mean the colors of the cloud. Sunset is truly a wonderful work of God.
Muntik muntikan ko ng iwan ang DSLR ko sa bahay... mabuti na lang at naisipan kong bitbitin... Napakaganda at kakaiba talaga ang likha ng Panginoon.
Blogging gets easier
I was just too busy lately and though I have access to try this new speech recognition program for free, I still have not done so. But seeing this video of Owen and the article written by Brett, I promise to try this software as soon as possible. If you are interested, you may be able to type at 150 WPM for $99!
I just watched a great video by Owen the writer for www.u-g-h.com. Owen is a great blogger from the Isle of Man who keeps a couple great tech blogs and even builds plug-ins and widgets in his spare time from what I understand. I've known Owen for over two years now through the blogosphere.
I just finished watching the video Owen created after he agreed to try out Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 Preferred. What is really amazing here is that he created this video just a few minutes after he installed the Dragon Naturally Speaking on his machine.
Many people remember the days when it would take hours if not days or a week or more to train a voice recognition software program. Owen was able to install the software and use it to very good effect as you can see from the video above which has been embedded from YouTube.
Now he's just getting used to the software and one of the things that you will notice is that his speaking style is a little slow and starts and stops a bit in between each sentence. He doesn't have 2 talk that slow nor does he have to start and stop after each sentence. He could just keep talking in one continuous fluid verbal conversation with his computer. Dragon NaturallySpeaking even has the ability to automatically insert punctuation as you talk. The auto punctuation feature is not perfect, but it is a lot better than you might expect.
Owen is actually using the manual punctuation function where he specifically says each item of punctuation that he wants inserted into his sentences and paragraphs.
Regardless, as you watch Owen's video and many other videos out there on Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10, you can see just how fast it is and just how useful it can be for anyone that wants to be able to type on their computer and create text by using their voice and speaking to their computer. It's a very liberating experience and as I write this right now I am using Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10, and I am pacing around my kitchen about 20 feet from my computer using a wireless headset microphone. I walk by my computer every few steps and glance at the screen to see if my computer is capturing the text correctly, but I probably don't even need to do that because it is so very accurate.
That said, it is very important for new users to do a fairly good grammar check on the documents that they create with Dragon NaturallySpeaking. When you first get started, Dragon NaturallySpeaking does learn what you're trying to say and it improves over time. So you will need to edit a little bit more when you first start, and it's a good habit to pick up as you go forward because your speaking style is going to be much different than your normal writing style would be if you were typing with your fingers. It's a different area of the brain and you will get a different result in your written documents when you use Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
This article is approximately 540 words long(pre-edit), and I wrote it in about three minutes. It also took me about two minutes to edit because I was going back and forth into another room to help my kids with their homework. Still, that's approximately 108 words per minute including editing time!
My name is Brett Bumeter and I've been writing about Dragon NaturallySpeaking for almost 2 years now. I think this is a great product, however I also recognize that people really have to see this product in action in order to envision how I can truly help them in their work and in their lives. So I am working to bring many more videos of Dragon NaturallySpeaking to you since you can help figure out if this great tool that costs about $99 could help you type in 150 words a minute. I think it can, and I definitely think it's worth it. You decide and you let me know what you think. :-)
Best regards,
Brett

The RED bedroom
A lot of people are asking me if this red bedroom is my bedroom. The answer is NO! We wouldn't be able to sleep in that room! It is just way too red for me.
A family friend of ours recently bought that house. The whole house was newly painted and since its almost winter here, they decided to keep the painting till next summer. Besides, you cannot re-paint a house until after 1 year from the last painting. The curtains also comes with the house and they just haven't replace them.
These are the other bedrooms in the house.
Obviously a family with young kids used to live here.
I hope that clears all those who are curious about that room.
Weekend Snapshot #6: Home update

This was taken last weekend when we went to visit the construction site. The outside is all done. Hubby and the kids drive by today and the garage door is also there. Hubby forgot to bring the camera though. So I will have to pass by tomorrow to take a picture.
Looking for a good deal
When I bought my Nikon D-40, I got a huge discount because it’s an open box. Open box simply means somebody bought it and decided to return the item to the store for whatever reason. Open box offers the same warranty as a brand new one. So if and when I find it defective, I can simply return it to the store for replacement. No hassle.
Now that our move-in date is getting closer, my husband and I are looking at wholesale electronics that are on sale at Liquidation.com. And we’re hoping to get some good deal for open box items.
Photo Hunt: Scary

My son is scared of this kind of rides... we had a summer pass at Canada's Wonderland in 2006 and he only enjoyed the water part of the park. While my daughter tried every ride that she can ride.
This year though, he was brave enough to try multiple of rides like the above picture including the Vortex at Calaway Park. Thanks to the influence of his playmates who loves to try different rides.
Keeping warm
I was wondering how motorcyclist kept themselves warm during the cold days. Now, I know, there is such a thing as heated motorcycle clothing. And for those pet lovers, I guess a heated beds, mats and pads for your dogs and cats are also helpful during winter months. And maybe, we don’t need to use the heater if we all have heated blanket to keep us warm. Yes?
Friday Fill-ins #6

- Right now, I'm feeling tired.
- To be with my husband and kids is where I want to be.
- How does one have peace and quiet with 2 kids arguing all the time?
- Having a goal and direction is what keeps me on track.
- Please don't make me mad today.
- Making money through blogging fills me with joy.
- And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to movie night or karaoke night with the family, tomorrow my plans include rest day and hopefully get some chores done and Sunday, I want to go to work, actually I need to go to work!

Did you ever had a dollhouse?
When I was young, I used to dream about having my own dollhouses or my own little swing in the backyard or my own little kitchen. Unfortunately, we lived in an apartment and we are not well off, and so I could only envy those who have them.
When I had my daughter, I said I’ll give her the things that I didn’t get when I was young... unfortunately, since we are renting, she can only have her own little kitchen! [Which I just picked up from the street.] I’m hoping that someday, I would be able to buy her a dollhouse. She's been begging me for one.

Get your Holiday Cards now!
Are you ready for Christmas? Have you chosen your Holiday Cards? Do you make personalized Christmas cards to give to your family and friends? Or do you just buy the regular one?
I already have tons of Christmas cards at home given to me by different charitable organization that I try to support from time to time. I have more than enough actually for this coming holiday season. Yet, I’m still exploring the possibility of making a personalized holiday cards for my family and friends. Personally, I love the fact that people take time to write/mail me a personalized card rather than those generic ones. I especially love photo cards though I know not a lot of people are into this. What’s your preference?
VistaPrint.ca is here to help you. They have hundreds of designs to choose from, and you will be able to create one card in just a few minutes. You have the option to make folded cards, or photo cards, or postcards, or even Christmas letters.
They also have promotional giveaways, rubber stamps, labels, signage, stationary and so much more for small businesses or even corporations. You have the option to upload your own design or choose from their library.
Tagalog movies
I miss watching Tagalog movies. That is why I am glad to know that there are Tagalog movies/TV series that are now available online. And for FREE!
Here are the 2 sites:
I used to watch Maalaala mo kaya while I was still in the Philippines. The true stories there ALWAYS makes me cry! It always makes me think "what if that was me? what will I do? will I be able to survive? will I be able to make it without going insane?" And after so many years, Maalaala mo kaya is still there, giving meaningful advice.
I found one episode of Maalaala mo kaya in WowBulaga, the Mansyon [Mansion]. If you haven't seen it, it's a must-see movie.
Are there any more sites that offers free Tagalog movies? Please share the links. Thanks!

The new speech recognition program
Have you ever heard of Dragon Naturally Speaking software? It is so cool. All you need is the software and a microphone. This is a speech recognition program. Generally speaking, it is faster for people to talk than to write. With this software, you don’t need to be fast at typing. All you need is to talk to the microphone the normal way and the software will do the rest. Check out the video for more information.
Press Release:
In this YouTube video, you can see a blogger using Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 Preferred to write a blog article with in WordPress.
The author of The Love You Make, is using this voice recognition software after having the software for just a few days. She writes this great little article that's about 280 words long in about two minutes and 45 seconds. That translates into about 165 seconds of typing, or 1.7 words per second. That means she's typing a little over 102 words per minute with Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
Plus, she's just getting started with the software!Dragon NaturallySpeaking has come a long way over the last decade, and now can enable people to type at 150 words per minute. I myself, have clocked version 9 at 167 words per minute, and I'm seeing even better results out of version 10. The software is extremely accurate, and can make many of your typing chores exceptionally easy.
As a blogger myself, I am able to write longer articles, with more complete thoughts on a subject in a significantly reduced amount of time. I have been working to challenge bloggers to try Dragon NaturallySpeaking and see if they can use it to help improve their writing. I think bloggers have an enormous amount of potential, and I always look for tools that will help them unleash that potential.
I think that Dragon NaturallySpeaking is a great tool that can definitely help bloggers increase the value that they offer their readers. I can envision a blogosphere where bloggers are able to take the time and provide insights into their wisdom and experience and ideas easier and faster because they can get their thoughts out quickly and completely using Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
I hope you will consider using Dragon NaturallySpeaking. It has a price point that starts at about $99. This is the version that you would use if you only use the software with your computer. If you intend to use the software with a pocket voice recorder, which could enable you to have your MP3 files of your voice transcribed into text, then you may also want to consider opting for the Preferred version of the software. The Preferred Version starts at about $199 and has many options.
I personally recommend the preferred version, but I do understand that times are a little tough financially for many people including myself. I still recommend it, because I do believe that you will see a significant return on your investment. Spending $100 or even $199 on Dragon NaturallySpeaking will enable you to type at 100 to 150 words per minute. It has been my experience that you will not get as tired from typing, you will not suffer from eye strain as much and as a result will experience fewer migraines or headaches, and you will be able to move around your office, your home, or your work environment because you will not be locked in front of your computer sitting in a chair typing and mousing around with your fingers.
I do believe that Dragon NaturallySpeaking can help you to be a better writer, to write as a more in-depth blogger, to produce better content, and to produce more content. I believe this because I have seen it myself. :-)
Please consider watching this Dragon NaturallySpeaking video so that you can see for yourself just how well Dragon actually speaking works.
Sincerely,
Brett Bumeter
Softduit Media
PS I wrote this 575 word article using Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10. It took me about three minutes to write and about three minutes to edit. :-) Even with editing time, that's 95 words a minute!
Seiko watches
When I was young, Seiko was already a famous brand. I know I hear it all the time from my parents and brothers.
I have a friend who is a diver. And he got some huge collection of Seiko watches that are waterproof. His new wife, they recently got married, is asking me for gift suggestion on their upcoming first year anniversary. And I suggested another Seiko watch. He collects them and he will surely love it.
A good workout day
This extended family of ours moved to their new home last Saturday. And we helped them with the move!
Hubby and I had a good workout. Their apartment was on the third floor and there's no elevators. So we took a lot of trips going up and down.
We started moving stuff at around 10am and finished by 6pm. We also took a trip to Ikea to buy a mattress since they decided to get rid of their old one. And then, we had a late dinner at Korean BBQ.
The food was so delicious that the workout we had earlier went to waste. ",)

Now, I'm dreading our own move. I have twice as much as their stuff and I honestly don't know where to start!
Choosing your web hosting provider
I have been blogging for almost 4 years now and before that I am really illiterate when it comes to technical stuff. It’s a good thing blogger is there to provide all the support I needed to start my blog.
Finding a good webhosting blog provider is the key to a successful blog. Most of the CMS [content management system] are open-source and free to use. The CMS is a program developers use to create and edit web pages. They provide templates to help you design your blog and cover almost everything a non-technical person will need.
WebHostingGeeks.com offers comparative analysis in helping you decide how to choose the best web hosting service.
For example: If you are into pro-blogging like I do, you will need 100% server uptime for obvious reason, we all want our blog to be available 24/7. I would also go for those that offer unlimited database, unlimited bandwidth and a technical support already in place to answer all my questions.
It is also important to choose the type that is best for you. Free hosting services are geared for personal sites. There are also shared hosting for small businesses. There is also a dedicated type of service for larger hosting needs.
ReidSupply.com
A friend of mine recently moved from Toronto to Calgary. His new employer in Calgary is offering to help him get this certificate as CAD operator and will be paying for his training and all.
ReidSupply.com currently offers over 42,000 free CAD drawings of parts available for download that was helpful to him. Their catalog features industrial supply products in 800+ pages with 12 product categories including material handling.

City tour
We love New York. When we used to live in Ontario, we would drive to New York at least once or twice a year to visit my husband’s sister and her family. As you all know, we love road trips and the kids are used to our long drives. It's the cheapest way to travel.
The year we decided to relocate to Alberta, we made one last trip to New York City. This time though we decided to take the city tour. My sister-in-law and her family decided to join us when we booked with Bus Charter NYC for a day trip to Boston. We could have driven, but we decided we wanted to relax and just be a tourist.
NYC Bus Charters is a perfect choice for tourists. They got travel consultants that will help you customize your itinerary depending on the places you want to see and the things you want to do at affordable prices. Chartered sightseeing is available in New York, Atlantic City, Albany, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Boston, Baltimore, Niagara Falls, Virginia Beach, Myrtle Beach among others. It doesn’t matter whether you have a small group or a big group, they will be able to accommodate you. Check out their site now and get a free online quote.

- Follow the leader.
- My DSLR camera is something I always take with me on vacation.
- To achieve your goals, you must have realistic and achievable goals. Don't dream of the impossible!.
- I am not a snob like most people would think when they first met me is something I'd like you to know about me.
- I have a book on Idiot's guide to Digital Photography that I still have not read.
- I miss the A&W rootbeer floats.
- And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to quiet evening with the family, tomorrow my plans include helping a family friend move to their new home and Sunday, I want to start cleaning up the junk in the basement!
Airport shuttle service
When we first decided to relocate from Ontario to Alberta, it wasn’t an easy decision. We didn’t know anyone in Alberta then, so it was kind of hard for my husband to get around and familiarize himself with the city. He wouldn’t know how to get to his temporary accommodation from the airport. It is a good thing that airport shuttle service is now available in most airports in North America. It was hassle free. All we did was booked it online and his shuttle service is ready to pick him up as soon as he landed. And 20 minutes later he was at his temporary accommodation.
Same thing happened to my in-laws when they visited my sister-in-law and her family in New York City. Due to conflict on their arrival time, my sister-in-law had no choice but to book them a JFK Shuttle service. My in-laws were quite happy with the service, its reliability and a driver who took time to talk to them a little about some sights and history of New York City. Now, that is what you call a full service!
This is a perfect service for landed immigrants, refugees and even tourists. On line reservation is available 24/7 and it’s a year round service.

Contact Lenses
My cousin back home wanted me to buy her contact lenses here. She visited us early this year and she bought a set of contact lenses. She said that the quality is very different and contact lenses bought here will cost cheaper in the long run. And since she will be traveling again to see her brother in Australia, I ordered some disposable ones for her to use.
Postcard Project
Remember the days when having a pen pal is part of growing up? I had tons of pen pals from different countries when I was in high school. That was my life then as I rarely go out with friends. Through them, I was able to collect stamps, stationaries, old coins and paper money from different countries. I still have those with me.
I am currently collecting fridge magnets of the places that we've been to.
Recently, as I was blog hopping, I read about this mother who is collecting postcards. [Sorry, I forgot which blog it is.] Their family loves to travel like us. And every place that they've been to, they would mail a postcard addressed to their little daughter with a message on how she liked/disliked the trip/place and how she behaved that day or anything interesting that she did.
I had the sudden urge to start doing this to my kids or to myself [as if I don't have enough junk at home]. But seriously, I think this would be a cool collection for my kids to enjoy when they are older. I already got 2 from a friend who recently went to Winnipeg. Would you care to send me [or my kids] a postcard from your place? Please let me know by email and I'll email you back my mailing address. Thanks in advance.
Mac memory
A friend of mine bought her first laptop about a year ago. It was a Mac. Since she is not very knowledgeable when it comes to computer/internet, she is asking for my help to check out her computer. It seems that she’s having some trouble with it. And she couldn’t explain it to the customer service agent.
My husband decided to take a look at it and he discovered that all she needs is just to upgrade her Mac memory.
The Reward System
I've been trying to come up a reward system for my kids as an incentive for them to do well in school. The first month is over and so far so good. I would love your insights/inputs on my reward system. Thank you for your time!
Friday Fill-ins #4
- One of the best concerts/plays/movies I ever saw that I really didn't think I'd like was a broadway show called The Producer.
- Nanaimo bar is a recipe I recently made that was delicious!
- It's time for some Thanksgiving dinner.
- A glass of coke with ice is quite refreshing.
- If I never hear the word re-check and swab again, it'll be too soon. [Part of my job]
- To one side of the curving road was the Canadian mountains, and on the other was a photographer [me] trying to capture the beauty of nature.
- And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to sleeping in early, tomorrow my plans include going to work and mass in the afternoon and Sunday, I want to be a coach potato but I can't because I plan to go to work and then attend a Thanksgiving dinner party at night!

Gift item
Ever since I started working, giving Seiko watches as a birthday or Christmas gift has always been a favorite gift item for me. I don’t know why. I guess it is just less hassle in searching for THE perfect gift. And most people love it and will use it. This year is no different. I am planning on getting my husband a watch. I think I found the watch that I wanted to buy and it's on sale.
13 years!
It feels like it was only yesterday when I said "I do"... today marks our 13th wedding anniversary!!! Hubby and I have known each other since November 1988! How time flies...
You can read the first 10 years of our lives together from the link on the sidebar... When we celebrate our 20th, I'll be adding more to that entry. ",)
I've been asking hubby to replaced my lost wedding ring... but somehow, we kept on postponing it as there are more important things that we need to spend the money on. But lately, I found the ring that I wanted... I wanted titanium rings this time.
Patrick is hooked on...
In no particular order --
- He loves playing golf... and he is asking me to buy him some colored golf balls.

- He is also addicted to Pokemon's comic books.
- He loves to go biking... even on windy days.
- He loves playing outdoors with our neighbors until bedtime.
- He loves to create a fort in his bedroom using pillows, blankets, chair and other stuff found in his room. I should remember to take pictures next time.

Portable Air Conditioner
Alberta has longer winter days and shorter summer days. Today, it already snowed a little but not enough to pile up. Hence most houses here doesn't have centralized air conditioner unlike houses in Ontario or Manitoba. Now, my husband has been wanting to buy a portable air conditioner. But since we will be moving soon and didn't want to accumulate more stuff, we decided to buy before next summer.
Weekend snapshot #5: Kananaskis

On our way to Kananaskis... scenic drive. Another perfect day for a road trip!
This is the most of the Fall colors that we have here in Alberta.
Mostly yellow leaves. I haven't seen any red/orange leaves yet!
Forgetmenot Pond.
We didn't stay long because it is very windy and its getting cold.
The last 4 pictures are from Elbow Falls Trail.
