My gift to myself

I decided it's about time that I got myself an external hard drive! I have tons of pictures especially since I got my DSLR and burning them in DVDs doesn't seem to be so reliable in the long term.

So I am now busy moving all my pictures to the external HD and renaming them for easy retrieval. This is definitely going to keep me busy for the next couple of days!

Hope you all have a Prosperous New Year!!!

If you can avoid it

If you can avoid it, postpone your trip to the US for the meantime. And if you can't avoid it, try to lessen your baggage. As of this posting, no carry-on bags are allowed anymore. Every bag has to be checked in. The only exceptions are small purse, laptop bag, medications, infant milk and diapers... click here for more information on CATSA website.

Be aware. Be prepared. Be informed. It is a hassle to travel these days, but better to be safe than sorry, right?

Crazy week at work

I decided to work on boxing day, simply because I have some bills I need to pay and working on a stat holiday pays well. The night before that, I was already hesitant whether I should go to work or just stay home or go to boxing day sale. I decided to go to work. Wrong decision!

It was crazy at work that day! Due to the volume of work, we couldn't even get our proper coffee and lunch breaks. They implemented new procedures without considering the available manpower that they have for that day! Everybody was overworked and under appreciated!

Worst, people were "required" or should I say, "forced" to stay on operational overtime, whether they like it or not! And that is not cool at all.

I am just glad that I have the next 5 days off to rest my poor and tired body.

A Very White Christmas!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!

Playing around with a prime lens

I was able to borrow a 50mm lens from my friend's daughter. I was playing around with it this morning since we couldn't go outdoors because of the snow storm.

It was so hard to have my kids pose for me... this is the best that I could get out of them. I still have yet to play around with the white balance. For these pictures, my white balance is set on auto.

Wildlife shooting

My photography class is scheduled to go to the zoo this Sunday to shoot some wildlife from 9am till 12:30pm. And that will also be part of my final assignment which is due in less than 3 weeks. But with the freezing cold that we've been having for the past couple of days, I'm not sure if I can stand being outdoors to do the wildlife shooting. It's in the -20sC right now and we might also get some snow this weekend. I don't want to miss the field trip as I don't want to miss all the tips and tricks that I could learn from our instructor. What should I do???

This is the one time that I wish the chinook would come in and warm up the place for our zoo trip. I honestly don't know what I am doing in a very cold country when I prefer the tropical weather.

5th Blog-niversary!

Wow! I can't believe that this blog turns 5 today!

I am literally running out of things to write about. I mean there's tons that I could blog about work, but I can't, for security and confidentiality reasons.

My husband doesn't want me to blog about my kids or our family a lot too. He claims that our privacy is at stake.

But I still love to blog. And I love making a few bucks here and there every once in awhile. I wish I have the time to blog hop as often as I used to be. Oh well... let's see how long I can keep this blog active.

Christmas is just around the corner

I am halfway through with my Christmas shopping... the kids are very excited to see gifts with their names under the Christmas tree. Just a few more gifts for friends and I am done.

This is the first year that we are having a parol [lantern] at home. My MIL bought us one from the Philippines and it's beautiful!

Even though we got Christmas decorations and gifts under the tree, I can't really feel the Christmas spirit. I don't know why. Normally, as early as October, I can feel the spirit already, especially when I was still back home. Here, it is just not the same.

Kids are having their first Christmas party this Sunday courtesy of hubby's employer.

"You don't take a photograph, you make it!" by Ansel Adams

Taking up photography classes makes me look at my pictures in different light. What I thought was a perfect shot [at least for me] turns out to be not. And now, the critique of my instructor stuck with me. I still liked my photos, but I see all the mistakes now.

One important thing that I learn is that it is NOT in the camera, but it lies on the person taking the picture. You could have a very expensive camera, but if you don't know how to use it, it's useless.

This is the main reason why I decided to take photography classes even though I know there's not much money [income] in it. If I can make money from it, the better, but if not, then at least I am taking good photographs from now on. And I can maximize the use of my Nikon.

I wish to see some changes in the pictures that I will be taking from here on...

The sun will come out tomorrow

I just had a very stressful week at work. You all know that I only work twice a week and the past two days was the worst days of my life. It happened Sunday at approximately 6am, and I honestly don't know how it happened, but it did. It's a good thing that they can review the camera/video for that incident.

All I know is that I am doing my job, with no distractions around me. How it happened? I cannot explain.

You can just imagine my whole day Sunday at work. I don't really have the energy to work thinking how that incident could have happened without anybody noticing it. I wrote my report that day, spent more than 1 hour in the manager's office, and they still couldn't make a decision even after watching the video.

That night, I had some friends come over to cheer me up. It was an instant party organized at 5:30pm. Hubby was understanding enough to buy take out food for dinner and some Smirnoff. I don't drink, but my friends did the drinking for me. I'm so glad I have them with me that night!

Monday at work was a really slow day for me. I was there waiting for the decision to come down, expecting the worst. And almost at the end of my shift did one of the Manager came down to tell me that "no disciplinary action" is necessary since they now know that I was just doing what the SOP said.

I ask the Manager as to what they saw on the video, and he just said that he didn't see it personally. And that he couldn't say. This made me think -- maybe I didn't make any mistake? maybe it was a mistake on the part of the person who reported the incident? or maybe there was no incident at all and they are just covering it up?

Bottom line is I am just glad that it's over. I didn't realize how much stress I had until I got home yesterday and went to bed at 7:30pm! I didn't even hear the kids, nor did I even notice my husband going to bed. I am a light sleeper and these things do wake me up, except last night.

Sorry, but for security reason I couldn't elaborate on the incident itself. But I thank GOD that it is finally over!

Gary and Martin in AS1

Last Saturday, me and my friends went to watch the concert of Gary V and Martin N. The concert was great!!! No front acts that normally delays the show. And they started promptly at 6pm.

Concert lasted 3 hours... and even though we were seated at the second to the last row, it was still worth it. The sounds didn't came out right during the first few numbers. I took videos, but as you can see in the pictures below, we were quite far and the videos didn't really turn out quite good.

I have never watched any Gary V concert, but I have been a fan of Martin N since his Penthouse Live days. In this concert, I believe it was Gary V's fans that filled the huge Jubilee Auditorium. He is still very energetic especially when he did Michael Jackson songs and dance moves. He really rocks! And he made Martin dance!!! It's very rare for me to see Martin dance... and he is really funny. But Martin will always be my favorite!

Wordless Wednesday: New Moon

Watch out for the release of New Moon on the 20th of November!

Today is also Remembrance Day. Let us not forget those heroes who fought for us...

"Remembrance day or Veteran day is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War."

My little cookie monster

My son is a growing boy! He is turning 13 in 2 months! He just can't seem to stop eating while at home. Take for example we just finished eating dinner and he had 2 servings. As soon as he is done, he will start opening the cabinet and fridge in search of something else to eat or munch.

When we went for his volleyball tournament last week, I bought him 2 cheese burgers with large fries. He ate at around 3:30pm on our way to the tournament. Once there, after they played their second game, at approximately 6:00pm, he was again begging for more food! He claims that he ate over 2 hours ago and is hungry again. But then he did get some snacks in between games too.

I had my lunch at around 1pm, just one sandwich, and haven't eaten anything till that time. And I'm not hungry. So how could he be hungry? I told him to wait till the end of the game before eating anything heavy, but he was throwing tantrums already. So I bought him a corn dog. I don't really think he is hungry, I think it's more of I'm-bored-I-need-something-to-do/eat. Anyway, after the game, at 8:30pm, he managed to find $2 on the floor, and decided to grab himself another corn dog.

He had gained so much weight already, he is actually overweight for his height already. What should I do? Does your teenage boy eat like this too?

Do you think I should start locking up food around the house like the one that could be bought at www.FridgeLocker.com? I just can't help but think about obesity when I see him eat like that.

Stressed out!

I am so stressed out at work! It's a good thing I only work twice a week. I wish I could work more but if management doesn't stop giving stress to all it's officers, I can make do with my income for working twice a week. One of the major reason why I decided to keep this job is because of the health insurance lead that it provides. Second major reason are my friends!

Question of the week

Which side will you take?
The left side where there's nothing right?
or The right side where there's nothing left?

Time to organize

I went shopping last week. I wanted to organize my living room because I have been having guests from time to time and my living room is basically empty except for a couch and a center table.

I bought a TV stand/console that has enough storage to hold some of my photo albums. What's my theme? It's all about rocks. I'll share a picture of my living and dining room once delivery has been made.

My adorable kids

Picture taken in December 2005, Toronto

This is one of my favorite pictures of my kids... I just love it when they are sweet and loving to one another.

My son actually doesn't want me to share this picture with anyone... he claims "its embarrasing." To me, it was a sweet gesture and I love to share it!

I'm planning to delete my scrapping blog since I don't really have the time to scrap anymore... so I just thought I'd re-post some of my favorite scraps here.

Photography class

Whew! My basic photography class is almost over. This Wednesday will be the exam day and that's it. This basic class is a prerequisite for all the other photography classes that I wanted to enroll. The class is definitely very informative with too much information to digest. I still get confused sometimes, but I'm learning how to shoot in manual mode.

My next class will be about "Scenic and Wildlife" photography [Nov to Dec]. After that I will be taking up "Intermediate Photography" and "Wedding Photography" in January. Each class is 6 weeks long.

To get a certificate on photography, I have to take at least 8 courses. Still have a long way to go...

Isn't it Ironic?

"We ignore those who adores us... adore those who ignore us...
Love those who hurt us... and hurt those who love us!"

Human nature? Ironic indeed!

Wordless Wednesday: Roses

Just celebrated our 14th year anniversary. And these roses came from my loving hubby.

Wordless Wednesday: 50th birthday cake

I went to a party a couple of months ago, and this cake was made by the wife to the husband who was celebrating his 50th birthday.

Everything you see in the cake, except for the candles, are edible! Isn't it cool? And it taste really good too!

3-tiered Diaper Cake

Today, we decided to throw a surprised baby shower to a friend of ours. It's her 3rd baby, but ever since I saw this diaper cake in several blogs, my hands has been itching to make one. So I decided to make one for her, hence the baby shower.

First, gather up all the materials that you will need -- at least 70 pieces of medium diapers, ribbons, baby bottles, toys, spoons, bibs, mittens and socks... and whatever you may think of...

Then, start rolling up the diapers... this part takes time...

Start decorating...

Move things around...

And here's the final outcome. I was able to convince my friend to show her tummy while we were at the park 2 weeks ago, and I'm sure she will treasure this picture which I decided to add to her diaper cake.
