Pata Tim [Stewed Pork Knuckle]

I am in the mood of trying out new recipes these days... This isn't as good as what my mom used to cook, but it will do... I didn't add black mushrooms since we don't like them. It's my first try and it turned out to be very yummy.



  1. Place pata/pork leg [preferably the front part of the leg] into deep pan with half-filled water. Add 2 pieces star anise and 1 onion cut into cubes, boil in low fire until the pork is tender for about 1.5 hours or more.
  2. Mix 1 cup soy sauce, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 tsp MSG [optional], peppercorns and 1/4 cup flour into separate bowl. Set aside.
  3. In a frying pan sautee minced garlic and 1 onion cut in cubes, 1 medium size carrots [cut] then pour into pork together with the soy sauce mixture. Boil until the sauce becomes thickened. Another 30 minutes.
  4. Then add 1/2 cup black mushroom and the cabbage or any vegetable you like. Serve hot.
